Dr Ger Moane is a psychologist, writer and shamanic practitioner. She was an associate professor of psychology in University College Dublin for many years, specialising in human development, gender, sexuality and lgbtq+ issues.
She grew up in Ireland in the 1960s and 70s, and has long been fascinated by prehistory - how people lived, what they believed, and how different they might have been from us. She studied at UCD and completed a PhD in psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, before returning to Ireland to teach psychology and women's studies, developing the field of liberation psychology along the way. She later trained as a shamanic practitioner.
Inspiration to write a novel came from feminist visions of a pre-patriarchal society, Celtic and goddess mythology, trips to ancient sites, dreams and shamanic journeys, and honouring the land. Keeper of Stones, her first novel, follows Briona's turas to Newgrange in 3026 BCE, drawing on the myths of the Tuatha Dé Danann to imagine ancient Ireland as a land of abundance where people live in harmony with earth and sky.
She lives in Dublin and is currently working on a sequel.
