T O Munro wrote his first book - more novella than novel - at thirteen, and has been writing stories in the four decades since, dabbling in naval novels of the Nelsonic era and in murder mysteries set in schools before turning to epic fantasy. A plot idea hatched during long hours of exam invigilation became The Bloodline Trilogy, which he self-published from 2013: Lady of the Helm, Wrath of the Medusa and Master of the Planes. His short fiction has appeared in speculative fiction anthologies.

He took a break from a career in education to study at Queen's University Belfast, taking an MA with Distinction in Creative Writing in 2020 and completing a PhD in Creative Writing in 2023, and now teaches creative writing workshops and Open Learning courses in genre fiction there. He reviews books and writes articles for Fantasy Faction and The Fantasy Hive, has judged Mark Lawrence's Self-Published Fantasy Blog Off, and works as an editor and beta reader for speculative fiction authors.
